Location: Remote, with up to 50% travel

Salary: $110K - $130K

SIRIS is seeking to add a Building Envelope Commissioning Specialist (BECx) to the team. The BECx will report to the Director of Commissioning and be working on a broad variety of small and large construction projects in both the public and private sectors. The role will include verifying that a building's exterior envelope, including walls, roof, windows, and doors, meets design specifications and performs optimally in terms of energy efficiency, weatherproofing, and air tightness, by conducting thorough inspections, testing, and analysis throughout the design and construction phases, ensuring the building envelope functions as intended and adheres to project requirements; this will involve working closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and building owners to identify potential issues and recommend corrective actions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design Review: Analyzing building design documents to identify potential building envelope issues and recommend improvements regarding insulation, air barriers, water management, and material selection.

  • Pre-Construction Planning: Developing a commissioning plan outlining testing procedures, acceptance criteria, and documentation requirements for the building envelope.

  • Field Inspections: Conducting on-site inspections during construction to verify proper installation of building envelope components according to design specifications.

  • Testing and Analysis: Performing various tests like air leakage testing, water penetration testing, thermal imaging, and blower door tests to assess the building envelope performance.

  • Reporting and Documentation: Preparing detailed reports outlining findings from inspections and tests, identifying non-compliances, and proposing corrective actions.

  • Communication and Collaboration: Collaborating with architects, engineers, contractors, and building owners to address concerns and ensure project goals are met.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Architecture.

  • Certifications: Certifications from a nationally recognized Commissioning Certification Organization such as Certified Building Envelope Commissioning Professional (CBECP), Building Enclosure Testing Association (BETA), as well as LEED Accredited Professional (depending on project requirements).

  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of building science principles, building components, construction methods, and relevant building codes.

  • Testing Proficiency: Familiarity with various testing equipment used for building envelope performance evaluation, such as air leak detectors, infrared cameras, and water penetration test kits.

  • Design Review Skills: Ability to analyze design documents and identify potential issues with building envelope details.

  • Field Experience: Proven experience in completing at least five (5) Building Envelope Commissioning Projects including construction site inspections and quality control procedures related to building envelopes.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey technical information to diverse stakeholders.

  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Ability to analyze data, identify root causes of issues, and recommend practical solutions to address building envelope concerns.
