Construction Estimator

Hourly Range: $80.00 – $100.00hr (commensurate with experience)


Engagement Overview

SIRIS, LLC is seeking an experienced Construction Cost Estimator to provide independent, project-based cost estimating services in support of federal government construction programs. This engagement is structured as a 1099 independent contractor relationship, focused on delivering defined estimating outputs rather than ongoing employment.

The Contractor will support Design-Bid-Build and Design/Build projects by preparing conceptual and detailed construction cost estimates using established estimating methodologies and industry-standard tools. The Contractor retains discretion over the manner and means of performing services, subject to agreed-upon deliverables, timelines, and acceptance criteria defined in a written statement of work (SOW).

Scope of Services & Deliverables

The Contractor may be engaged to perform some or all of the following services, as defined in the applicable SOW:

  • Perform detailed reviews of project plans, specifications, and supporting documentation
  • Prepare quantity takeoffs across all applicable divisions of construction work
  • Develop top-down conceptual estimates and bottoms-up detailed estimates
  • Identify and document assumptions, clarifications, exclusions, and risk factors impacting cost
  • Prepare analyses of subcontractor bids and pricing inputs
  • Ensure the full project scope is reflected in the estimate
  • Conduct constructability assessments and identify potential cost or execution risks
  • Revise estimates in response to scope changes in accordance with agreed-upon change control processes

Education & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is preferred; equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience will be considered

Experience

  • Academic background with a specialty in Estimating or evidence of five (5) years of construction estimating experience to compensate for the absence of higher education. Work experience may be substituted and will be reviewed for acceptability.
  • Experience supporting regulated environments (federal, healthcare, or institutional) is highly desirable
  • Candidates may be asked to provide examples or documentation of completed cost estimates demonstrating relevant experience

Preferred Experience

  • Preferred experience with Autodesk ProEst, AutoCAD, Revit, & RS Means.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment in administrative, financial, and compliance matters
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and various PDF viewers
  • Strong written, verbal, and organizational communication skills

Engagement Structure & Working Conditions

  • Engagements are project-based, with scope, deliverables, and timelines defined in a written SOW
  • Estimated level of effort will vary based on project complexity and schedule
  • Contractor retains discretion over work scheduling, provided agreed-upon milestones and deadlines are met
  • Collaboration with SIRIS personnel and clients will occur as needed to support delivery and clarification of requirements
  • Limited travel for site visits or project meetings may be requested based on project needs

Independent Contractor Status

This engagement is structured as a 1099 independent contractor relationship. The Contractor is not an employee of SIRIS and is not eligible for company benefits. The Contractor is responsible for all applicable taxes, insurance, and business expenses associated with the engagement.
